Our Veterinary Service Team

Comox Valley Animal Hospital is proud to introduce our team of veterinarians who are devoted to helping animals. The veterinarians are a cohesive team who thrive on each other's expertise, areas of interest, and clinical skills as a way to ensure your pet receives the best care we can offer.

Dr. David MacDonald

Dr. David MacDonald grew up in Nova Scotia and attended the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, obtaining his DVM in 1998. Dr. MacDonald began his career in mixed animal practice working in British Columbia and a short time in northern California. Currently, Dr. Dave has a special interest in small animal surgery, including orthopedic procedures, and canine reproduction. He also provides regular veterinary services to the communities of Gold River and Denman Island where Comox Valley Animal Hospital has satellite clinics. Outside of work he enjoys his blue heeler dogs Shroo and Spartz, raising sheep on his farm, and riding his horses with his wife Dr. Edgell.

Dr. Sacha Edgell

Dr Edgell, also a graduate of the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998, has special interests in diagnostic ultrasound, looking after critically ill patients and helping pet owners better understand their animal companions. Outside of work Dr. Edgell spends most of her time on the trails with her horses and her blue heelers Shroo and Spartz. Dr Edgell particulary enjoys competing in endurance riding on her horses and has completed the Tevis Cup twice on her mare Gabby.

Dr. Faye Briggs

Dr. Faye Briggs grew up in Thornhill, Ontario and graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2000. After moving to the Comox Valley in 2009 she joined the team at Comox Valley Animal Hospital. Dr Briggs is devoted to her two dogs, Secura and Soloman and spends her free time pampering them.

Dr. Erin Manson

Dr Erin Manson grew up in Victoria and graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, in London, England, in 2015.  Since returning to Vancouver Island, Erin has been focusing on enhancing her surgical skills, particularly in orthopedics.  She has been performing TPLO’s for Comox Valley dogs with cruciate tears for over a year now and is skilled at fracture repair, FHO and more.  When not at work she spends time with her husband, Chris and their three terriers, Fergus, Tattie and Penny.

Dr. Kevin Penner

Dr. Kevin Penner grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba and graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. He has worked at small animal clinics in Campbell River and Selkirk, Manitoba. He joined the team at Comox Valley Animal Hospital in 2025. When not at work he can be found outside running or cycling, or inside spending time with his wife Jillian, his cats Cecilia and B.O.B., and his dog Cash.

Dr. Serena Yu

Dr. Serena Yu grew up in Toronto and graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2024. After spending a few months in BC during vet school, she fell in love with the West Coast and decided to make the Comox Valley her home in 2025 to join the team at Comox Valley Animal Hospital. Dr. Serena is excited to meet the many furry faces that come through the clinic and to provide compassionate care to pets and their owners alike. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring the island on hikes, as well as horseback riding and skiing.
